About Michelle

Michelle Barraclough is a writer and podcaster whose first novel As I Am, a contemporary drama, was Highly Commended in the 2017 Richell Prize for Emerging Writers and earned her a 12 month mentorship with Robert Watkins, Head of Literary at Hachette.

Michelle has a double degree in Business & Arts majoring in literature and marketing from Monash University, which left her well versed in 19th century classics and how to position a brand, but woefully ill-prepared for the tricky business of writing novels.

Fortunately she was able to flex her writing muscle whilst running a business and raising a family. For four years she wrote a blog Bumparella which followed her journey through the weird science of IVF and her subsequent pregnancy, as well as the comedic-tragic-dramatic performance of being a parent.

She also completed a course in Creative Writing with Pamela Freeman at the Australian Writer’s Centre.

Michelle is currently working on her second novel The Tangled Green in between deep dive interviews with authors about writing craft and process on her monthly podcast Writers Book Club.

In her day job, Michelle designs gorgeous websites for other authors over at Fresh Web Design.

She was also the marketing manager for StoryFest, a writers' festival on the NSW south coast, for four years.

Originally from Melbourne, Michelle and her husband John now live on Sydney's northern beaches with two children under their roof and three grown-up ones nearby.

You can follow Michelle’s 'path to publication' here on the website, as well as on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Michelle is represented by Tara Wynne at Curtis Brown.
